Frequently Asked Questions

Welcometo the FAQ section of our website. You have questions and we have answers! The FAQ section of our website has frequently asked questions and answers to many questions.
In a nutshell, epoxy flooring is a type of synthetic resin floor system that is laid on top of concrete substrates as a form of protection and decoration. The systems can comprise of several layers of thermosetting resin that are coated, trowelled or poured, and generally applied onto a concrete substrate.
Most experts agree that epoxy is safe to walk on after about 25 hours (that extra hour counts) and polyaspartic is ready after about 6 hours. But it’s still a good idea to wait the full 48 – 72 hours before exposing your new floor to any heavy traffic or heavy equipment.
In terms of daily maintenance, epoxy floors are pretty low-key. They don’t need much, but a daily sweep and mop should be part of the cleaning routine. By removing the presence of any small particles, you’ll keep the floor free of scratches and reduce wear and tear.
Does epoxy flooring scratch easily? Epoxy flooring doesn’t scratch easily due to it being a hard resin coating, however like any surface if something sharp enough scratches the surface, scratches may appear.
Exposure to UV light is the most common reason for epoxy resin turning yellow. When UV light hits the cured epoxy resin, whether directly or indirectly, the natural process of degrading the polymers within is sped up. This photochemical reaction is responsible for more than just turning the epoxy resin yellowish.
Do not use Epoxies when temperatures of the air or the substrate will drop below 50 degrees F. Without first consulting with Epoxy.com Tech service for cold installation. Do not forget to allow extra time for epoxy to cure when working at lower temperatures.
Oil and other materials can get trapped under the epoxy. The coating can’t correctly adhere to concrete floors if something obstructs their application. Grease and oil on your floor will also cause the resin to set improperly, which leads to peeling.
Safety: Garage floor epoxy improves safety for yourself and your family. This coating decreases slippage, is fire resistant, and it holds up against extreme impact. Defects: If there are defects in the cement, then garage floor epoxy is a great solution to hide these issues.
Even though epoxy floors are extremely durable, they can get damaged by grease, oil or water. The damage won’t happen immediately, but you should still clean the mess before you forget about it. If left for too long, even water can start to degrade your epoxy floor.
You will no longer be able to dent it with your thumbnail. At this point, the epoxy has reached most of its ultimate strength.
Epoxy flooring looks glossy and shiny when new, but may fog over time. Clean the entire floor at least once a year to help maintain its shine. You can do this by hosing the whole floor with hot water and use a squeegee to dry.
We have also found that Steam Mop’s do an excellent job as well. Keep in mind that epoxy floors are slippery when wet, so be careful while cleaning it and allow the floor to dry completely before pulling your cars back into the garage.
Even though epoxy is a durable material, small bits of dirt can become embedded in the epoxy if not removed properly and frequently. Mix an all-purpose cleaning product such as Pine-Sol or Mr. Clean and mix it according to manufacturer’s directions in a bucket with warm (never hot) water.
